For some people, the idea of doing maternity pictures seems a little hard to grasp. Some people feel awkward posing in front of the camera by themselves, or even posing to showcase their growing belly. This was the case for this beautiful momma. And honestly, it was a dilemma for me when I was pregnant with each of my three girls. On the one hand, you get to the point where you are engulfed in the feelings of complete discomfort, insecurity at your changing body (not just the bump..right?!), and never being able to think straight because you're short of breath... ALL THE TIME! On the other hand, that time when you and your babe are one, where you can feel every little kick, punch, hiccup, stretch, and turn, is one of life's most sacred gifts. It is special. A completely unique bond between you and your child. And deep down, we all would love to have that sacred bond documented in more than just our memory. Memories fade, but capturing a moment in a picture can last a lifetime.
When I approach a maternity session, it is with a very distinct goal in mind; to capture that way you look at your baby inside you, to articulate that longing you have for your baby to be in your arms, and to show you just how beautiful you are as you have sacrificed your body and comforts in order to give new life to a child...your child.
So here is this momma, watching her sweet baby girl move in her belly and imagining meeting her in just a few short days! Maybe one day this baby girl will break out these pictures and think how beautiful her mom was as she sacrificed to give her life, maybe she'll hold them for comfort as she goes through her own pregnancy, and maybe 1 will be displayed in her very own nursery for her baby, adding that perfect touch of vintage to the room. Truly moments to cherish.
